Acupuncture Probably the most researched of all C.A.M. modalities. There exists thousands of papers proving beyond any doubt the efficacy of Acupuncture and even the World Health Organisation recommends it above the use of orthodox treatments for over seventy profound conditions.
Although Acupuncture naturally involves the use of needles – which are finer than a cat’s whisker – it should be pain free.  Our competent and suitably trained practitioner is highly skilled in achieving this.  Once the needles are in place, the feeling is generally one of deep relaxation and calm.  For those who would prefer to experience Acupuncture another way we can offer Laser-puncture via the use of our cold laser instrument.

True traditional acupuncture involves a traditional diagnosis as being a critical factor in its efficacy.  The majority of medical practitioners, physiotherapists etc. are not suitably trained to do this, and therefore they do not qualify as traditional acupuncturists, in our view.

The insertion of extremely fine needles into vital energy points to stimulate healing and pain relief. Over 7000 research papers published both in the West and East have established beyond any doubt the efficacy of acupuncture. It has a documented history of over 2500 years and is currently used through choice by over 4.5 billion people worldwide including 23% of the population of the USA, and of course members of our own Royal family are regular users. Needles as fine as a human hair are inserted into acupuncture points situated just under the skin. These points are connected to the bodys information super highway Photons / DNA and create positive electrical and biochemical changes in the brain. The brain is the centre of all information, it controls in tandem with the spinal column all body functions, including pain, repair and healing. Acupuncture is one of the most universally accepted treatments by private healthcare insurance companies and we receive many GP referrals per week. Rachel Lambert-Smith of the Shen Clinic is the main provider of Traditional Acupuncture for the Isle of Wight NHS Primary Care Group.

Is Acupuncture painful? All needles used are extremely fine - more like a fine hair than a needle. The Acupuncturist is trained to apply the needles extremely quickly in order that the body barely has time to register the insertion. Once the needle is in you may feel a slight tingling sensation which passes after a few moments or you may feel nothing at all.

All needles are sterile and single use only.

Once the needles are in you will be allowed to relax for at least 20 minutes - very often patients are so relaxed that they quite happily fall asleep.
It is fine by us if you do drop off to sleep. Hopefully your visit to the Shen will be an occasion when you can escape from everyday lifeand enjoy some time to yourself.

Take a glass of water to bed and leave it on the bedside cabinet.
When you awaken, spit into the water.
Do NOT try to gather spit from the inside of your mouth, just spit whatever you have, however little, into the water.
Allow to stand for 15 minutes, then gently swill the contents round in the glass.

Hold glass up to the light.
If the spit remains on top of the water, or dissolves, you are OK.
If it turns the water cloudy, you have a
Positive Indicator.

"Hold glass up to the light.  If water turns cloudy, or legs appear descending down through the water you may have a Candida imbalance.
In such cases you might like to consider contacting us for advice or alternatively you might like to consider going to www.naturopharma.com. for product suggestions."
